Big teams line up for Seaview competition

The third staging of the two-day Seaview Gardens All-Stars six-a-side football competition will be held at the Seaview Gardens Primary School field from December 26-27, starting at 9 a.m. each day.

Sixteen teams are down to participate in the competition, including defending Premier League champions, Tivoli Gardens, along with Waterhouse, Arnett Gardens and Boys' Town.

Super League leaders Cavalier, last year's champions, and Duhaney Park, along with Major League club Police National, will also take part in the competition that is designed to facilitate the peace process in the community.

They will be joined in the competition by Street Ballers United and Seaview Gardens football team.

Nyron Grandison, organiser of the competition, said he's expecting a very exciting championships.

"It is a unique competition in which we also expose some of our young and talented footballers," said Grandison.

"The players will be honing their skills against teams from the Seaview Gardens community, neighbouring communities and the Jamaica Constabulary Force," he said.

There will also be exhibition games from the Jamaica Rugby League and the Jamaica Volleyball Association.

Sponsors of the competition are Wray and Nephew, Locker Room Sports, Hi-Lyte, GraceKennedy Ltd, Red Stripe, Ballaz International and CVM Television Limited.

20-minute games

The tournament will include first round matches in which teams will play in zones and have the opportunity to play twice, with the winners advancing from that zone to the quarter-finals.

Each game will be played for 20 minutes - 10 minutes each half. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation time, the game will go straight into a penalty shoot-out.

The winners of the competition will take home $50,000 and a crate of Guinness.

The second place team will receive a trophy, in addition to 10 individual trophies and a crate of Guinness.
