PNP hypocrisy on local government poll

Published:Wednesday | February 16, 2011 | 12:00 AM

The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) knows it is being hypocritical about the Golding administration's decision to postpone the local government elections that were due by this March.

Of course, no one believes that the delay is in furtherance of local government reform. The assumption is that the Government is fully aware that its stocks are now low and is hoping that they will rise before it has to face the electorate - either nationally or in municipal polls.

But it is the same game the PNP played when in office.

If the PNP is serious, outside of dumping the parish councils, it would give a firm commitment to the kind of reform that would ensure that these elections are, at all times, held when they are due.
