Jet Setter, Treasure Girl fancied

Native bred three-year-olds take the spotlight at Caymanas Park today when the colts contest the $1.1 million Sir Howard Stakes and the fillies square up for the Hot Line Stakes, both over 1200 metres.

The 10-race programme also marks the seasonal debut of the reigning champion sprinter, SAINT CECELIA, who should have a battle royal with stable companion, THE GUV and the classy American four-year-old filly, RONRON, in the 3-y-o and up open allowance race over 1200 metres, to be contested by six starters.

TREASURE GIRL, who won the Eight Thirty Sprint over the straight most impressively four weeks ago, should repeat in the Hot Line Stakes, while it should be the improving JET SETTER in the Sir Howard Stakes.

The Gary Subratie-trained TREASURE GIRL showed marked improvement on her second outing, in the Eight Thirty Sprint, pulling clear of rivals to win by 8 3/4 lengths - from subsequent winner LIVE WATER - covering the distance in the good time of 59.3, with Shane Ellis astride.

Trainer Subratie will present the daughter of Golden Gear-Teresa Belle in tip-top shape and despite the sound claims of SWEET BROWNING and the unbeaten SWEET TRIAL (Lasix on), both of whom won with contemptuous ease last time out, TREASURE GIRL is preferred in the nine-strong field. Ellis again has the ride.

Stretch-running

JET SETTER, on the other hand, should stave off the stretch-running BIG MAN BOYU and SMOKIN MAN in the Sir Howard Stakes, to be contested by nine colts and geldings, following his impressive fast-time win over 1100 metres on January 1.

To be ridden by the very competent claiming apprentice, Richard Mairs, for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, JET SETTER has caught the eye at exercise in preparation for this race, galloping 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:07.3 last Sunday Morning, the last five in 1:01.0.

The Region Of Merit-Executive Profile offspring will not have things as easy this time around, as SMOKING MAN and BIG MAN BOYU will ensure he is extended.

Other firm fancies on the card are RONRON, to catch the fleet-footed SAINT CECELIA in the open allowance sprint (ninth race); SHE'S SO SWEET in the first; FLAGAMAN in the fourth; and the stretch-running STORM WATCH to catch CHAMPION LINKS in the closing Alex's Imports 'Dig Out' Handicap maiden condition race for three-year-olds over 1600 metres.
