St George's, Mona hunt final berth

Mona High and St George's College will put their unbeaten records on the line when they host Camperdown and Pembroke Hall, respectively, in semi-final action of the two-day urban area ISSA/Grace 'A' League cricket competition today and tomorrow.

Mona, who are favourites to get the better of Camperdown, who finished behind St George's in Group D of the preliminaries, have so far notched four wins and three draws.

"So far we look good," said Mona's coach, Owen Speid. "We have a good all-round team as, led by medium pacer Ganesh Nacgie, we have been bowling out teams; and Jahvon Wollaston, Winston Taylor and Kadeen Miller, we have been posting good scores."

St George's, in the meanwhile, who will face a Pembroke Hall team that finished second in Group C behind Mona, have so far recorded four wins and one draw.

"We are quite upbeat," said St George's coach, Winston Wilson.

He added: "I don't think St George's are in awe any of the teams in the 'A' League and so I am looking forward to us pulling through. We have two good pace bowlers and two good left-arm spinners and think it will be difficult for them."

The winners of each semi-final, in addition to making the final, will advance to the semi-final round of the ISSA/Grace Shield Premier League competition.

So far, six teams have advanced to the Premier League semi-finals, with defending champions Innswood and Spanish Town leading the way. The others are Wolmer's, Norman Manley, St Jago and Calabar.

The semi-final round will be divided into two sections of four teams with the winners of each section advancing to the final.

Innswood, who last year copped the premier league and knockout double, advanced to the semi-finals after recording a perfect seven-from-seven win record in Group A of the preliminaries.
