Big Twenty20 clash in Ewarton

A mouthwatering clash is expected today when Ewarton oppose Basement in one semi-final of the St Catherine Cricket Association/Sherwin Williams Twenty20 competition at the Ewarton Oval starting at 9 a.m.

In the other semi-final clash, early qualifiers De la Vega Cricket Club will play the winners of the game between Church Pen and Kitson Town.

Slight advantage

Basement will hold a slight advantage entering today's match against Ewarton, who they defeated earlier in the preliminary round.

Herbert Garriques, coach of Basement, said his team very confident and raring to go.

"This is a team is that we know very well because we are neighbours and so I am expecting a tough game, but I know that we will come out the winners at the end of the day," said Garriques.

"I think that pound for pound we have a better team than our rivals and so I am expecting nothing, but a victory," Garriques added.

Basement will rest their hopes in the hands of national Under-19 wicketkeeper batsman Kemar Marshall, along with likes of captain Dwayne Ewart, Akbar Moodie, McKoy Ewart and Gerald Morgan.

On the other hand, Milholland Barker, manager of Ewarton, said he is very optimistic that his team will turn the tables on their opponents.

"We are very confident because we have a very good all-round team with some good players that have been performing well for us this season," said Barker.

"We have been playing some good cricket, even though we have lost one match in the competition to them," Barker said. "The players have been very consistent in their play and so I expect us to take this victory."

Barker added: "They have a very rounded team and they have been playing well this season and so the match should be an exciting one."

Former national youth player Rasheed Outar, will lead Ewarton's charge for a victory along with likes of Damion Henry, Jamari Harris and Roy Williams.
