Bridgmohan reins in four at Fair Grounds

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CMC):

Shaun Bridgmohan more than compensated for his failure in the US $60,000 feature Bienville Stakes, with a four-timer on Saturday's 11-race card at Fair Grounds.

The four wins lifted the Jamaican to second in the jockeys' standings on 73 - a long way behind A.R. Napravnik, whose double carried him to an even 100.

Bridgmohan steered the 2-5 favourite Ipso Facto to a 2¹/²-length victory in the US $18,000 first race going 1,200 metres on the dirt track.

He took over on the four-year-old, brown filly inside the final 200 metres and edged her clear under steady handling for a time of 1:11.61 seconds.

Bridgmohan then won by 2³/⁴ lengths aboard the 5-1 chance Crown of Aragon in the US $29,000 second race over 1,600m on the turf track.

He kicked the three-year-old, chestnut colt clear of a rival in the upper stretch and proved best under strong urging to post a time of 1:41.21 seconds.

Bridgmohan later drove the 4-1 hope Sparkling Keat to a 2¹/⁴-length victory in the US $45,000 eighth race over 1,200m on dirt.

The five-year-old chestnut gelding responded well to Bridgmohan in the upper stretch and the animal edged clear under strong urging to clock 1:10.30.

Commanding victory

After failing to win the Bienville Stakes, Bridgmohan again showed the way home with a commanding five-length victory astride the 8-5 favourite Needadrink in the US $18,000 penultimate race going 1,100m on dirt.

The experienced reinsman got the three-year-old, dark bay filly away alertly and she set the pace under some pressure, before accelerating clear when shaken up in the upper stretch and drew off under strong hand urging in 1:04.71.
