Raiders, Tropics top Milton Richards Memorial tourney

Raiders United and Tropics Hockey Club captured the male and female titles, respectively at the Milton Richards Memorial Hockey Tournament which was held at the Mona Astro Turf last weekend.

Tropics won the female trophy when they defeated St Andrew 2-1 in the final, while Raiders recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

Tropics secured their place in the final by finishing atop the standings in the female section - which was played on a round-robin format - with 10 points, ahead of St Andrew (nine) and Sharpes Women (five).

Raiders United gained their spot in the final by finishing a point behind the JDF (13) in the standings with 12 points. Eight teams took part in the male competition which was also played on a round-robin format. They are Lauderhill Strikers (11), Munro College Old Boys (8), Circus Circle (7), G.C. Foster College Men (7) and Raiders Wolmer's Edition (1).

Most Valuable Players

Donovan Shakespeare of Raiders and Kay Tulloch of Tropics were voted the Most Valuable Players of the two-day competition.

Nicholas Beech of the Raiders won the top goalscorer trophy with his six goals, while Erica May-Chambers of Sharpes won the female equivalent with four goals.

Pickeisha Powell of Tropics won the award for the best goalkeeper, while Alex James of Raiders Wolmer's Edition took home the male equivalent.

Trudy-Ann Knight of Sharpes captured the most outstanding junior female award, while Kemar Mitchell of Circus Circle won the equivalent in the male category.

Leon Kerr was voted the most outstanding umpire.
