It was a keen contest but when the dust settled it was also poetic justice that 23-year-old teacher, Sheena Sterling, won the St James Festival Queen title last Saturday at the Montego Bay Cruise Ship Pier.

It started out evenly with all the ladies introducing themselves well. The contest then went into the talent presentation and apart from one of the ladies not getting into the character of the dramatic presentation she did, it was still even until then.

The winner separated herself from the pack, however, during the interview segment, what many believe to be the core of the competition. She spoke about using technology to teach, and the crowd appreciated it.

The queen who spoke highly of her Somerton heritage is from a family of seven. She said her hobbies are from the gamut of performing arts. She is a stickler for learning and wants to own a business, possibly in the field of education.

The queen will go on to represent the parish at the national crowning.
