They were denied the opportunity of taking the chequered flag during the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), at the Dover Raceway in St Ann recently. However, the Bajan contingent - which completed the podium finish behind Jamaica's Summerbell - is waiting to stake their claim in the second leg at the Bushy Park race track in Bridgetown in late August.

"One of the first thing we thing we will be doing when we land in Barbados is to correct the suspension of the cars to facilitate the handling on the track. This is because the Barbados circuit is very narrow and we must leave there leading on points, if we are to win the national title," president of Jamaica Race Drivers Club, Hilary Jardine, told Automotives on Friday.

He said the cars of the Jamaican contingent will be shipped immediately after the August 7 Independence race meet scheduled for Dover.

"We have confirmed Peter Rae, David Summerbell, Dean Shaw, Chris Campbell and George Bayley. They were selected because they will be available to travel at that time and secondly, because of the reliabi-lity of their cars," said Jardine.

Though he domi-nated all three races at the recently held CMRC meet, Summerbell - who has assumed the lead in the driver's championship on points - is aiming to register his third consecutive champion-ship win and his fifth overall.

tough competition

"Barbados is going to be very tough. Stuart Williams is very fast and I think I will have to produce my best ever performance in Barbados," said Summerbell.

In the meantime, motorsport fans are still talking about the high points and exciting moments of the last race meet. Summerbell had a hat-trick of wins in the CMRC events. While the rematch between Doug Gore and himself ended 2-1, in favour of Gore in his new Audi TT.

Kyle Gregg, Andre Anderson, Charles Chen, Peter Rae, Teddy Burton and Nigel Edwards and the Brown's Town Crew from St Ann were among some of the top performers.
