Farm Heights march into final

Farm Heights became the first finalists in the 2011 St James SDC Twenty/20 cricket competition on Sunday, when they scored a comprehensive 67-run win against Arcadia in their semi-final game, which was played at the Orange Community Centre.

The second semi-final between Granville and Kensington, which was played at the same venue, ended in a no result as heavy rains forced a premature end. Kensington, which batted first, were struggling at 94 runs for seven wickets off 14 overs when the end came.

"The game will be replayed this Saturday at the Spot Valley High School Grounds," said SDC sports officer, Yvette Malcolm, the competition's coordinator. "The winner of the game will meet Farm Heights in Sunday's final."

Standout batting

In the other semi-final, which was reduced to 14 overs, Farm Heights batted first and sparkled, scoring 185 runs for the loss of just one wicket. Dalton James top scored with a quick-fire, unbeaten 85, which included six sixes. Skipper Samuels Evans, with an unbeaten 49 and Ramon Manderson, who got 28, also got among the runs.

"The batting stood out today and after getting 185 runs we knew we had the game in the bag," said Evans. "I am really pleased with our cricket in this game, and I hope we will take this form into the final."

In their losing effort, Arcadia could only manage 128 all out off 11 overs. Gavin Murray and Carlos Williams, with 35 and 24 runs, respectively were the only batsmen to sparkle for Arcadia.

Bowling for Farm Heights, Fitzroy Perrier returned figures of three wickets for 27 runs off four overs. Evans also bowled well, but did not figure prominently among the wickets.

In the second game, which started under overcast skies, Kensington took first knock against Granville and were struggling at 94 for seven when the rains came. Clive Blackella and Calbert Plummer, with 16 runs each and Robert Johnson, who got 10, were the only batsmen to enter double figures.

"Our batting really struggled today because the conditions were difficult," said Johnson. "We will definitely be looking to put in an improved performance when we meet again on Saturday."
