Online feedback

Below are online responses to yesterday's letter titled 'JPS's duty to connect', by Michael Bryce, director of the OUR.

Stifling production

JPS has been holding back Jamaica's production for a while now. It is impossible to be competitive or productive with the cost of electricity this high.

I was a businessman in Jamaica, and JPS put me out of business (I could not afford those humongous bills). I am sure I'm not the only one.

Jamaica has one of the highest energy costs in the world. Our politicians know this - both JLP and PNP - but none of them make this an issue. But JPS, in itself, should not be blamed, for it is our elected officials who threw us under the bus.

Out of order!

Put JPS in dem place. They have been doing slackness for too long.

Damn out of order!

Give a specific time please

"... It must carry out that process in a manner that does not cause unnecessary delay."

What does "unnecessary delay" equate to in days? Exactly how much time is the JPS allowed for ascertaining whether the applicant has previous debt? What is the standard service time allowed?

Also, how do persons who are past victims of JPS's illegal activity go about getting refunded for payments incorrectly demanded of them?

Music to my ears

Mr Bryce, this is indeed good news. But you and attorney-at-law Bert Samuels fail to tell us what course of action the public needs to pursue if JPS insists on illegally refusing to connect service. Can you or Mr Samuels provide a follow-up?

No foresight

There are certain services which should be provided exclusively by government agencies. Electricity and water are two such services, to name a few.

The problem Jamaicans are having with JPS goes to show how much our politicians lack foresight. The sad thing is that politicians from both sides of the political divide continue to make the same mistake over and over - selling out Jamaica in the name of foreign investment.
