Bolt seeks redemption

One-hundred and 200 metres world record holder, Usain Bolt, will lead the Jamaican contingent into today's IAAF World Challenge meet in Zagreb, as he looks to take out his IAAF World Championships 100m frustration in the Croatian capital.

This will be the powerful Jamaican's first 100m since his well-documented disqualification due to a false start in the 100m final at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu and, he is eager to give an indication of what the world missed out on in the South Korean city.

"I look at this as an opportunity to make up for the World Championships, I am looking forward to this,"Bolt said to reporters in Croatia, before confirming that he would be looking for a fast time.

"I am coming here to do my best, to try to run fast. I missed out on the World Championship, so I want to see how fast I could have gone. I am still feeling good. I am pretty confident and am just looking forward to it," said Bolt, who bounced back in Daegu to win the 200m in 19.40 and lead Jamaica to a 4x100m-relay world record, 37.04 seconds.

"I am focused, determined to be the best at what I do, so I am just looking forward to the rest of my season and the rest of my career," added the Olympic 100 and 200m champion.

Bolt will be joined in the 100m by the World Championships bronze medallist, ST Kitts/Nevis' Kim Collins, Trinidadian Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson, American Justin Gatlin and fellow Jamaican Mario Forsythe.

Bouncing back

National 110m hurdles record holder Dwight Thomas will also be looking to bounce back from disappointment in Daegu, where he failed to finish the final, crashing out at the second hurdle after complaining of stiffness in his legs.

Thomas will face world champion Jason Richardson, who was promoted in the medals after Cuba's Dayron Robles, the Olympic champion, who crossed the line first in Daegu, was disqualified for a clash of arms with China's Liu Xiang. Robles will also line up in Zagreb, as will David Oliver of the United States.

Four-hundred-metres trio Novlene Williams-Mills, Shericka Williams and Rosemarie Whyte will all feel confident of their chances to win here, while Schillonie Calvert will test herself in both the 100m, where she will go up against world champion Carmelita Jeter, as well as the 200m, where she will face compatriot Sherone Simpson.
