Rusea's thrash Knockalva 9-0

Rusea's evoked memories of their opening day 10-0 drubbing of Green Island yesterday afternoon when they spanked Knockalva 9-0 to extend their impressive 100 per cent win record in Zone B of the 2011-12 ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition to eight games and their goalscoring tally to 52 for and one against.

In another dominant performance, the 'Russians' let loose all their fury as top marksman Brian 'Rambo' Brown hit the target four times to lift his season tally to 20 goals. Demar Doeman (two), Loshane Alcott, Keanu Williams, and Nicodia Haughton scored the other goals for Rusea's.

"It was another most encouraging performance by the boys as they showed they have not lost their appetite for winning big," said Rusea's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams. "We are now closing in on an inter-zone place and that is our first objective as we would like to compete for and win the Ben Francis Cup."

In Zone A, the red-hot St James High had their perfect record tarnished when they had to come from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against a Green Pond High team which ran them ragged, but failed to capitalise on the numerous chances they created.

Despite dropping a point, the St James High team remain comfortable leaders of the group with 19 points, accumulated through six wins and a draw. Green Pond, which now have three wins and a draw, remain off the pace on 10 points.

In other Zone A games, Spot Valley consolidated second position in fine style, scoring a good 2-0 win against William Knibb to move to 13 points, while many-time champions Cornwall College, which have been having a rollercoaster season, clipped Muschett 1-0 to move into third place on 11 points.

In Zone F, St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) reclaimed sole leadership by blanking DeCarteret College 4-0 in a rescheduled game. The win lifted the Santa Cruz-based team to 22 points, three more than archrivals Munro College, who were inactive.
