There has for a long time now, been a relationship between France and Jamaica, much in the same vein as there have been cultural exchanges between the island and China, Spain, the United States, and many other countries.

Come October 23, there will be a first, however.

Dobet Gnahoré will be performing in Jamaica for the first time as a guest of the Alliance Française de la Jamaíque.

Dobet Gnahoré is the winner of the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance, which she shared with India.Arie for the song Pearls. She is a young singer, dancer and percussionist from the Ivory Coast and is widely considered as one of contemporary African music's most exciting new talents.

The concert begins at 6 p.m., at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus' Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts. Tickets cost $2000.00 for the general public and $1000.00 for members and students of the Alliance Française de la Jamaíque.

Tickets may be purchased at the Alliance Française and at the Jamaica National Building Society office in New Kingston.

Patrons will be treated to the best that Africa has to offer as the Alliance Française de la Jamaique celebrates Heritage Week and the International Year of People of African Descent.
