UWI, GC Foster win Intercol TT
Last year's runners-up UWI Pelicans blanked visitors Excelsior 5-0 and GC Foster blanked hosts Mico 5-0 in two male matches, as the Intercol Table Tennis League continued last Thursday.
After these third-round results, defending champions UTech Knights and GC Foster are tied atop the standings with four points each, followed by UWI Pelicans on three points, Mico on two points and Excelsior, one point. The league has now reached its half-way mark and the top four finishers will advance to the semi-finals. These, followed by the finals, will be played at UTech on Thursday, November 17, at UTech. On this day also, individual events - singles and doubles - will be played.
In individual results on Thursday in the UWI/Excelsior match, Jason Welsh, Tevaughn Alleyne, Brandon Waugh and Ricardo Palmer all had easy 3-0 wins over Ronaldo Russell, Alex Levy, Chad Philp and Kareem Tyndale, respectively, in singles matches. Dexter Smith and Darren Salmon crushed Philp and Tyndale 3-0 in doubles, for the UWI Pelicans' 5-0 victory.
In the GC Foster/Mico encounter, Odane Keane trounced Mickell Ross 3-0, Shayne Frost eased past Adrian Thompson, Kemall Russell cruised past Obrien Henry and Evon Morgan overpowered Rochester Walsh, in singles matches. In doubles, Frost and Russell overwhelmed Henry and Ross 3-0, to secure GC Foster's 5-0 triumph.
Coaches are Sandra Riettie for UWI Pelicans, Richard Davidson for GC Foster, Edison Philp for Excelsior, and Obrien Henry serves as player/coach for Mico.
