Racquet-eers beat Georgia in annual tourney

The Racquet-eers tennis team won a clear and unequivocal victory (56 to 45 games) last Saturday against Georgia Tennis Club on the three grass courts at Georgia Club, Duncans, Trelawny.

The 2011 tournament, the eighth in the series, had international players and supporters from Norway, Canada, Britain, the United States, Majorca, Trelawny, Bog Walk and Kingston coming to participate.

"It's a great annual event and we expect it to start pulling in even more tourists in the future," said Ray Schnoor, Georgia Club captain. The three lady players - Rachel McLarty, Barbara Henriques and Gill Drake - were the stars of 2011. The Georgia Courts - the only grass court in Jamaica - were in exceptional condition," said Ray Schnoor.

"We are grateful to the Georgia Club and especially Captain Schnoor, Collin and Dimps Gallant; Sheona and Paul Muschett; Monica and Oliver Clarke; Martin and Anne Hopwood, for helping to organise this event. Putting together an international tournament in these hard economic times is particularly challenging," said Racquet-eers captain Richard Gomes.

"Usain is not the only athlete who performs in Trelawny," commented Cosma Earle, president of Silver Sands, as he welcomed the players and supporters who stayed and partied at the Silver Sands beach villas.
