Thursday Talk
>
1. The political scalp many in the PNP were gunning for is that of the outgoing PM. They said their data showed it was in play and they wanted it! The other seats on the PNP wish list included that of Sharon Hay-Webster, Danville Walker, Dr Saphire Longmore, and Joan Gordon-Webley. These were seats they say the JLP could not be allowed to win, and so they pulled out all the stops to "turn them back". What many in the PNP found surprising is that the sentiments were held by the majority outside of the party.
Humble Pie all around
2. Some are saying it's a lie to say grown men don't cry, as following the resounding defeat of the JLP, many a grown man cried for days, with a few even being bedridden as they suffered the agony of the massive defeat and many having to forgo their expected lavish Christmas dinners for the Dishes of the Season, which were Crow and Humble Pie, with many eating double servings of Humble Pie and Crow! Many are only now beginning to answer their telephones.
Fishy business
3. Stories making the rounds are of mysterious post-election comings and goings at certain ministries with taxis transporting files and other government property in the dead of night.
Not so fast!
4. Seems like the arsonists felt their job was incomplete, so the story is they returned to complete the job just after the election but were foiled by astute security personnel.
Boring
5. Some guests were not at all enthused about being invited to one particular Yuletide event. Story is it was so bad, some guests dubbed it 'The night of the living dead'. Problem is, according to some who attended, the hosts think they are the cat's meow.
The King of Greed
6. Bets are on that now there's been a change of government, 'The King of Greed' will be dethroned, and not be replaced. Some are upset about a number of sweetheart deals that were cut in his favour and have not only asked that they be revisited, but that a moratorium be placed on his involvement and that he be barred from further benefits.
Bandwagonists
7. Some say it's not only the obvious politicians who are shell-shocked by the JLP defeat, some in the private sector are too, but to cover themselves, many have been rushing to their telephones to register their support and messages of congratulations, intimating that they were always in support of the victors. Problem is, their records and utterances on record point to the contrary.
Missing in action
8. Many a bet was made by many high-ranking JLP members about the expected victory, but since the results have come in, those members cannot be found and many are now reneging on the bets they made predicting a JLP victory. Problem is many signed documents, and now those documents are being flashed around, asking the debtors to pay up.
Expensive defeat
9. Quote of the week: "The most expensive defeat ever bought and paid for by a political party in the history of Jamaican politics."
