Music producer and promoter Seretse Small is gearing up to host the second staging of his live-music event Eclectic tomorrow night. According to Small, it will reflect a new generation of dancehall music.
Eclectic was first held at Susie's Bakery, Southdale Plaza, St Andrew, in 2011. However, because of inclement weather last year, the promoter opted to go indoors for this year's staging. "Last year, it was affected by rain, so some of the plans that we had did not occur, and so this year we are moving to the Courtleigh Auditorium," Small said. Located at 8 St Lucia Avenue, New Kingston, at the Courtleigh Hotel, there will be three designated parking areas for the event.
The CEO of Griot Music expressed that Jamaica has been a hub of live music for over decades, and Eclectic is about maintaining that culture. "We are leaders in music and live music has always been a part of the legacy over 20 years. We want to retain our strength, hence using live band music," he said.
Patrons will be allowed into the auditorium at 7 p.m. and showtime is 8 p.m. Artistes confirmed to perform include Tanya Stephens, Tessanne Chin, Dubtonic Kru, Di Blue Print and six credible local poets. There will also be an after party, which is expected to start at 11:30 p.m, featuring Smoke of Renaissance sound system.
Small believes that Eclectic has the perfect mixture of music which will guarantee satisfaction for partygoers. "Eclectic means fusion, and Jamaicans who appreciate classical performances will enjoy it. The different types of entertainment, such as poetry, will create a unique flow so that the same thing won't be coming at you every time," he said.
To enjoy the live music, poetry and after-party, persons will have to pay $2,000 for presold tickets, or $3,000 at the gate Tickets can be purchased at Max Brown Store in Sovereign, Base Kingston in Manor Park, Music Mart at Twin Gates Plaza, Rituals Coffee House in Village Plaza and Bookophilia on Hope Road.
Patrons are advised to turn out early to be a part of musical history. "Come to this event because it's historic. It's the next great thing out of Jamaica. This is the next generation of our music and it is of great value and as good as any other classic event for the weekend," Small concluded.
Sponsors include Rum Bar Rum, Caribbean Producers Jamaica, Griot Music, Ready Media Rental and Hob Nob Wine.
