At first, he sustained a flat tyre midway the race, then the following event, he had gearbox problems. This was how crowd favourite David Summerbell bowed out of the 2012 circuit racing championship, concluded at the Dover Raceway, St Ann, last Monday.

Still, he had reason to celebrate. His daughter Samantha, who competes in the Bracket 32 Class, took the chequered flag for the first time.

Tarik Minott, Kyle Gregg, Heath Causewell, Gary Williams, André Anderson, Natasha Chang, Doug Gore, Troye Riley, Spencer Whittingham, Peter Rae and George Bayley were among the drivers who had the crowd screaming.

Cruise Lewis dominated the Bracket 45 'N' Class with two wins, while Cardo Dawkins took the chequered flag at least once in the Bracket 45 'T' Class.

Motorcyclists Adrian Blake and André Norman were outstanding in the 'A' Class, while Richard McDonald held his own in the 'B' Class.

The biggest surprise of the day was Peter Rae, who registered two wins. He capitalised on Summerbell's misfortune. Rae had not seen the winner's enclosure at Dover for some time. This year his RX7 Mazda came back much improved and took on the big guns.

Gore, who competed in the Bracket 45 Class for fun, blew away his opponents with a Audi S5.
