Having enjoyed his best-ever year in racing, Jamaica's 2012 Champion Driver, Sebastien Rae, has his sights set on winning the Group Two championship of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship in Guyana next week. Sebastien, along with his uncle Peter Rae, and David Summerbell, will represent Jamaica.

"This year has been another great and competitive year. Without my team and sponsors, it would have never been possible. They worked hard and never gave up," Rae told Automotives. "This has been my best year, as I came out as the overall Dover champion for 2012. It is the first time I have had such an achievement as I have been at Dover for about six years now," he said.

Sebastien said the main problems he faced throughout the season were financial and the maintenance of his car, but he hopes to acquire more sponsors as a result of winning the championship.

hopeful for another title

He is excited and nervous about competing in Guyana. "I will be leaving Jamaica on Wednesday to get a few days of practice in Guyana, as I hope to see if I can bring home that title as well. I am a bit nervous, though, as I heard those guys in Guyana drive a bit aggressive. I don't know what kind of cars are over there and I don't have any experience on the track, so we need to go and get the best of it and, hopefully, bring home the title," Rae said.

Sebastien was introduced to racing at four years old by his uncle and later got involved in go-karting before heading to the track at Dover.

Peter Rae added several accolades to his résumé in 2012, such as the National Thundersport 2 Championship. "I ended the year on a high note as I won the Thundersport 2 championship. This is the race dedicated to the founder of Dover raceway. My main thing heading into the future is to try and seek additional sponsors to help maintain my car," he said.

"All in all, it was really exciting and rewarding year for me. We are heading off for the finals in Guyana to represent Jamaica and I hope to bring home the championship."
