The weekend that was ...

The Long-anticipated weekend for revellers has come and gone, and oh what a weekend it was.
Beach J'Ouvert
'Twas the season of Bacchanal and socaphiles were rampant on the streets of Kingston from Friday night. Bacchanal J'Ouvert had patrons pumped and energised as many flocked to the new Mas Camp in anticipation of enjoying a great performance from soca queen Destra Garcia. Equipped with her usual high-energy routine, she had patrons "wukking it up" into the wee hours of the morning, welcoming well-anticipated paint, before they took to the streets of Kingston for a road march.
Not far across town, Grammy superstar and Jamaican heart-throb Orville 'Shaggy' Burrell tag-teamed with soca king Machel Montano for an event like no other. Titled 'Pandemonium', the event had an amazing energy as socaphiles were also treated to a concert featuring Montano, Shaggy accompanied by Super Blue, and Patrice Roberts, among others. Apart from the great line-up that was promised, patrons were all pumped and excited about the coloured powder - a welcome change from the usual paint that is synonymous with any J'Ouvert event. Like bacchanalians, patrons at Pandemonium painted the New Kingston Golf Academy with a wide array of bright colours before taking the fête to the streets of Kingston for the road march.
Sunrise Breakfast Party
Call it Friday night or Saturday morning - a number of patrons flocked to the Constant Spring Golf Academy for Sun nation's 'Sunrise Breakfast Party.' While a mix of revellers from both Bacchanal J'Ouvert and Pandemonium turned up drenched in paint and powder, there were others who were dressed to impress for the all-inclusive breakfast soirée. It was a great start/end to the perfect day.
Carnival Road March
Sunday marked the day when revellers took to the road in vibrantly coloured costumes for the bacchanal road march through the streets of Kingston. Celebrating 25 years, the bacchanal family pulled out all the stops ensuring that patrons were treated to a stellar showing on the road. Twenty-five trucks took to the streets to commemorate the 25th anniversary. Patrons fêted all day, ending the journey at the Mas Camp Village for the last hurrah of the season.
