The 31st staging of the Montpelier Agricultural and Industrial Show will take place on Easter Monday, April 21, at the Montpelier Showgrounds in St James, under the theme, 'Grow what we Eat and Eat what we Grow'.

The event is being organised by the St James Association of Branch Societies of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS). More than 80 exhibitors have confirmed their participation in the event which is being staged at a cost of $3.7 million.

The event started as a celebration for St James' farmers and allowed them to showcase the best of their livestock and produce. Its chief displays are agricultural, industrial and farming produce which are brought in by the farmers within the parish. Throughout the day, the farmers will compete for the Champion Farmer title.

It is also expected that there will be an increase in the number of JAS branches taking part, more products will be on display and for sale, as well as a larger livestock display.

The planned activities are geared towards families, gardening enthusiasts, farmers and students, and will include agricultural booth displays from agencies including the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). It will also feature a dog show, Kiddies Village, Health Village and Farmers Market, Farm Queen Competition, marching bands, branch tug of war, bun eating competitions, and horseback riding.

Sponsors of the event include Hi-Pro, Caribbean Producers, Margaritaville, Ministry of Agriculture, Wards Power Tools, Sunset Beach Resort and Spa, The Gleaner, Power 106, among others.
