WESTERN BUREAU:
On Sunday, July 13, one of Montego Bay's premier food fiestas, the Caribbean Shrimp Festival, will return to the Whitter Village in Ironshore for its third annual staging.
Shrimp lovers will get an opportunity to sample their favourite dishes, with additional new recipes and preparations on display. Of particular interest is a shrimp-sea crab combination that will be prepared by the Drunken Squid Restaurant. There will also be a celebrity chef cook-off featuring Executive Chef Anthony Miller from Hedonism II, Negril.
At the festival's official launch, held Monday night at Iberostar Resort in Montego Bay, Executive Director Jackie Norman said: "This year, we will be offering a three-for-one deal that allows patrons to pay one price and sample three different varieties of shrimp dishes. We will also have a big pork booth for pork lovers. There will also be a chicken booth and a beef burger booth from CPJ. Soupy John will also be making his delicious soups throughout the day."
Since its inception, the festival has prided itself on donating parts of its proceeds to charity. This year, the Montego Bay-based Open Heart Charitable Missions will the main beneficiary.
As the festival coincides with the finals of the FIFA World Cup, Norman said patrons will be able to see the game while attending the festival. There will be flat-screen televisions set up throughout the venue that will allow patrons to watch the finals of the competition.
The all-day event will go until midnight when it will culminate with a stage show featuring '90s dancehall superstars Frisco Kid, Terro Fabulous, Chico, and Lukie D from the group LUST. Upcoming artistes Zagga and Khairie White will also be performing, and judging from their performance at the launch, these two will have a lot to offer.
The sponsors for the event include Jamaica Beverage Limited, Rum Bar Rum, Caribbean Producers Limited (CPJ), David and Subs, Treasure Hunt Gaming, Glar Lighting, RJR, and TVJ, among others.
