EC boost Guyana’s sugar industry

The European Commission (EC) and the government of Guyana have signed a US$140 million agreement to aid Guyana’s sugar industry.



The project will support the Guyana government in its efforts to improve the competitiveness and viability of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO).



Head of the EC Delegation to Guyana, Ambassador Geert Heiken said the European Union\'s support to the local sugar industry would foster a smooth transition to a long-term profitable sugar sector.



Ambassador Heiken said the funds would be provided for studies, evaluation and audits to ensure effective implementation.
