Campbell wins 100 metres

Jamaican sprint queen Veronica Campbell continued her build-up for the Beijing Olympics yesterday with a close victory in the women’s 100 metres at the Adidas Track Classic in Carson, California.



Campbell clocked 11.14 seconds to edge out the 2005 American World champion Lauryn Williams by .01 a second with Jamaica’s Kerron Stewart third in 11.16.



Jamaica picked up another victory through Novlene Williams-Mills, who won the women’s 400 metres in 50.38 seconds with American Mary Wineberg second in 50.41.



Jamaican Shereefa Lloyd was third in 50.93.



World 100 and 200 metre champion Tyson Gay won the sprint double.



Gay edged fellow American Darvis Patton to win the 100 in 10.05 and returned to win the 200 in 20.08 seconds.
