Bolt cruises through heats

Jamaican Usain Bolt stays in contention to become the first Olympic Games sprint double champion in 20 years, by cruising through the first two rounds of the men’s 200 metres at the Beijing Olympics last night.



Bolt, who smashed the world record with a 9.69 second victory in the Olympic 100-metre final on Saturday, cruised to second place in the first heat of round one and then won his quarter-final race comfortable.



In the first qualifying round, he clocked 20.64 seconds, while running very easily to place second to Trinidad and Tobago’s Rondell Sorillo 20.58.



In the quarterfinal, he cruised to 20.29 victory ahead of the Olympic champions Shane Crawford of the United States, who stopped the clock at 20.42.



Jamaica’s Chris Williams also advanced to the semi-finals after the first two round.



The other Jamaican entry, Marvin Anderson is out after failing to finish his quarterfinal race.



The semi-finals are scheduled to get off tomorrow morning at 8.25.
