A plane headed to Barbados carrying 310 crew and passengers was forced to return to London’s Gatwick airport today.

The incident followed reports that a fire was onboard. No one was hurt.

Reports are that the Boeing 747, sent out a Mayday message an hour after take-off, reporting that one of its engines was on fire.

The British media reported that the pilot was forced to circle the Virgin Atlantic flight over Gatwick to burn off fuel before executing an emergency landing.

Virgin said the passengers would resume their journey to the Caribbean later today on a different plane.
