WFP condemns stolen food in Haiti

The World Food Programme (WFP) has condemned the theft of humanitarian assistance in Haiti.

Two city officials in Gonaives have been arrested and questioned in connection with a warehouse full of stolen food, which was discovered by police.

The WFP has called for concerted action to prevent such theft and urged that the perpetrators of such acts be prosecuted.

It says it is intolerable that a gift destined to help very poor, hungry people was stolen or trafficked.

Some 500,000 people were made homeless by four hurricanes in August and September.
