Hosts India beat Australia by 172 runs in the final Test in Nagpur today to seal a 2-nil series victory and win back the much-coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Harbhajan Singh, four for 64, and Amit Mishra, three for 27, wrecked havoc on the final afternoon as the Aussies collapsed from 112 at lunch to 209 all out.
The Australians, who resumed today at 13 without loss, needed the fourth-highest successful chase in test history to pull off a series-leveling win.
Needing another 369 runs in 90 overs, they scored 98 in the first session but lost three wickets by lunch and another seven went after the break.
Matthew Hayden went down fighting with 77, and Cameron White made a valiant 26 not out.
Final scores in the match:- India 441 and 295; Australia 355 and 209.
