Community groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo are reportedly appealing for European troops to be sent to stop the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The groups are adamant that United Nations peacekeepers are powerless in containing the crisis.
They say they can no longer rely on peacekeepers to protect civilians.
Meanwhile, rebel forces have begun to withdraw from some of their positions in the east of DR Congo as promised.
The withdrawal is taking place ahead of talks due between the rebels loyal to General Laurent Nkunda, the army and the UN.
Clashes between the army and the rebel forces have driven an estimated 250,000 people from their homes.
