Sunshine Girls remain top Caribbean side
Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls remain the top-ranked Caribbean side on the world netball rankings list, which was released today.
The Jamaicans are still at Number 4 in the world, a position assigned to them after a new rankings system was established 10 months ago.
As bronze medal winners at the 2003 and 2007 World Netball Championships, which previously fashioned the world rankings, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls had been rated Number 3 in the world for the past five years.
The new system measures the average performance of active teams over a series of matches and gives a points rating for each country
Former world champions Trinidad and Tobago dipped one place to Number 9 as the only change in the top frame of the December world netball rankings.
World title-holders Australia hold firm as Number 1 in the world ahead of reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallists New Zealand, with England, the bronze medallists at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in third position.
