WINDIES lose third One Day
The West Indies last night failed to take an unassailable 2-nil lead over New Zealand going down by seven wickets in the third limited overs cricket international at the Westpac Stadium.
Daniel Vettori took four wickets for just 20 runs as New Zealand dismissed the West Indies for 128 in 41 point 4 overs, setting up a win which leveled the five match series 1-1.
Chasing 129 for victory, Ross Taylor 51 and Daniel Flynn 23 shared an unbroken, 89-run partnership to lead New Zealand to 129 for three off 20 point 3 overs.
Darren Powell got all three New Zealand’s top order batsmen – Brendon McCAllum for 18, Jesse Ryder for 14 and Jamie How without scoring.
He ended with figures of three for 25 from seven overs.
Earlier, Shivnarine Chanderpaul top scored for West Indies with 45, his first match in the series after recovering from a hand injury.
A late flurry from Nikita Miller, who was 25 not out, and Fidel Edwards, who contributed 13 to a last-wicket partnership of 27, added a little substance to the West Indies’ total.
