Utech Classic begins

GC Foster College and Mico University College secured victories on yesterday’s opening day of the inaugural international invitational University of Technology (Utech) Cricket Classic.



The competition is being played at Utech.



GC Foster College defeated Utech Knights by 35 runs in their 20/20 encounter, while Mico University College beat University of West Indies, Mona by six wickets.



GC Foster batted first and posted 171 for five off their allotted 20 overs with captain Jowayne Robinson top scoring with 68 off 55 deliveries.



Nocholai Freeman got most wickets for Utech Knights taking three for 40 off four overs.



Needing 172 for victory, Utech Knights could only manage 135 for seven off their 20 overs against the bowling of Rajiv Chattrie, three for 27 and Orane Kelly two for 25.



In the second match, University of West Indies, Mona scored 126 for six off their allotted 20 overs and Mico replied with 130 for four off their 20 overs.



The competition continues today with Barbados Community College against GC Foster College in the first match at 10 a.m. and University of West Indies Cave Hill taking on Mico in the second game at 2 p.m.
