Australia Open Round up

Roger Federer cruised into the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne today with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Evgenny Korolev of Russia.



The second seed will next face 2005 champion Marat Safin, who enjoyed a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 win over Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.



And defending champion Novak Djokovic progressed to the last 32 with a 7-5, 6-1, 6-3 win over Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.



Other men’s winners were Andy Roddick, Fabrice Santoro, David Ferrer, Marin Cilic, Stanislas Wawrinka and Marcos Baghdatis.



In the women’s draw, top seed Jelena Jankovic battled past Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens to reach the third round.



The 23 year old Serbian won 6-4, 7-5.



Third seed Dinara Safina dropped a tough first set but beat fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.



Other women’s winners were Ana Ivanovic, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva, Daniela Hantuchova and Marion Bartoli.
