CHTA call for a united Caribbean

President of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), Enrique De Marchena, is calling for a united Caribbean protest against a new British tax on long-haul flights.

The increases on air passenger duty starts in November 2009 and Caribbean bound travellers are expected to pay a minimum 68 dollars extra per passenger for economy travel.

Mr De Marchena said the Caribbean must argue for the tax to be reversed because it could hurt travel from the United Kingdom to the Caribbean.

He said while other regions are removing barriers to travel, the Caribbean is not doing enough to enhance visitors.
