Jamaica wins first gold medal

Teenager Richard Hillary won Jamaica’s first gold medal at the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Idaho, United States yesterday.



Competing in speed skating ‘A’ division, the 18 year old Hilary beat American Antoine Hughes and Austria’s Sebastian Bernardi.



Hillary’s winning time was 32.55 seconds.



Jamaica pocketed a second medal when Monique Brown captured bronze in the 222 metres race in 36.00 seconds.



The event was won by China’s Lingmiao Meng in 32.33 with Russia’s Anne Zhukova second in 32.68
