Grenada opposition suggests population registry

An opposition lawmaker in Grenada has suggested the creation of a population registry as part of electoral reform efforts.

Senator Kennedy Roberts of the New National Party who floated the idea said such a system could draw on the resources of various organisations.

He said these include the Electoral Office, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), the Inland Revenue Department and the Ministry of Health.

Roberts says if the suggestion is accepted the government could use the resources and the support from the Organisation of American States (OAS) to combine with the NIS, and document the relatively small population.
