Bucknor says technology improves game

Former Test cricket umpire Steve Bucknor says the use of technology has improved the game at the highest level. However, he admits that it could be abused.

Bucknor bowed out of international umpiring, following the rain-shortened One-Day International between West Indies and England on Sunday at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The 63-year-old Jamaican feels the introduction of technology has been good for the game, and has helped to eliminate a number of mistakes.

He identified the adjudication of close run-outs as one of the areas of the game that have benefited from the use of video replays.

But he noted that technology has its limitations and has the potential to slow down the progress of the game.
