India versus New Zealand

Half-centuries from Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Mahendra Dhoni gave India a slight edge on the first day of the third cricket Test against hosts New Zealand at the Basin Reserve.



At stumps, India reached 375 for nine with Ishant Sharma not out on 15 and Munaf Patel undefeated on 14.



Tendulkar has so far top scored for India with 62, his 53rd Test half century, while Singh scored 60 and Dhoni got 52.



Opener Virender Sehwag chipped in with 48.



Bowling for New Zealand, Chris Martin ended the first day with three for 95. Iain O’Brien two for 88 and Tim Southee two for 94 supported him.



India lead the three-test series one nil after winning the first at Hamilton by 10 wickets and the second at Napier was drawn.



The visitors are trying to win their first series in New Zealand since 1968.
