Jamaican schools win medals at Penn Relays
Jamaica’s high school girls won two more medals on today’s second day of the three-day Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Candice Bernard of St Hugh’s in Kingston finished second in the High School Girls’ Discus Championship with a throw of 49.28 metres.
Vanessa Levy of Edwin Allen in Clarendon was third with a throw of 44.12 metres.
Aslynn Halvorson of Butler won the event with a throw of 49.28 metres.
Jamaica’s high school boys dominated the sprint relay heats.
In the High School Boys’ 4 x 100-metre relay for Large Schools, Calabar advanced to the final with the fastest qualifying time of 41.18 seconds. Kingston College recorded 41.96 for the second fastest qualifying time.
In the High School Boys’ 4 x 100-metre relay for Small Schools, Herbert Morrison from Montego Bay advanced with the fastest qualifying time of 41.68, ahead of Munro College from St Elizabeth with 41.81 and William Knibb from Trelawny with 42.02.
In the High School Boys’ 4 x 800-metre relay Calabar recorded seven minutes 71.27 seconds for the second fastest time.
The finals will take place tomorrow.
