The Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves is insisting that his government does not condone police brutality.
His comment comes in the wake of a protest at the police headquarters in Kingstown by two dozen people who alleged that the police are abusing their authority.
Mr Gonsalves says the government has set up an oversight authority to investigate claims against the police and people could also seek redress in the court.
While admitting that the police have a difficult job he says this doesn’t justify excessive force.
