The US Virgin Islands (USVI) requested funding from President Barack Obama for its energy programme.

USVI Governor John deJongh said he has submitted a request for $20 million under the Obama administration’s stimulus package.

The programme aims to reduce energy consumption and encourage the wider use of cleaner sources of energy, such as solar water heaters.

Governor John deJongh said the application was formally filed almost three weeks ago and he expects a receipt of funding within 60 days.
