Cuba said four patients recently treated for H1N1 influenza have been discharged from hospital.

The daily Granma newspaper said the 14 month old baby from Toronto, Canada, reported as the fourth case, was released from hospital.

Cuba\'s Public Health Ministry said persons who had come into contact with the toddler were also treated and discharged, as well as three Mexican students.

Official statistics show that 44 countries have confirmed H1N1 cases.

As a precautionary measure, Cuba\'s Civil Defense remains on alert for the deadly flu virus.

The effort involves the Civil Aeronautics Institute, the Customs and the Tourism and Transportation Ministries.

It also means extreme vigilance at airports, ports and marinas for timely detection of any incoming case.
