The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has welcomed the decision of the Organisation of American States (OAS) to lift the suspension of Cuba from the group.
Cuba was suspended from the OAS in 1962.
Because of the suspension, Cuba was barred from participating in the Inter-American system.
Jamaica’s foreign affairs and foreign trade minister Dr Kenneth Baugh says he is delighted about the development.
According to Dr Baugh, it is a victory for the democratic leadership of the member states of the OAS.
He also says the lifting of the suspension is a continuation of the spirit of the understanding and cooperation emanating from the 5th Summit of the Americas which was held in Trinidad in April.
