JFF instructs KSAFA to restart its competitions
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has instructed the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KASAFA) to restart all its competitions with immediate effect.
The JFF issued the instruction at an emergency board meeting held at the offices of the federation yesterday.
The meeting came as a result of a KASAFA’s decision on Monday, June 1 to immediately suspend all its competitions after receiving communication from the JFF advising that all referees registered with the JFF were required to wear jerseys branded with the Digicel logo.
The JFF says the local association had signed a three-year contract worth $6.5 million with Digicel in 2008, which cover training and development of referees including provision of uniforms.
All KSAFA- run competitions are sponsored by Claro, a direct competitors of Digicel.
The release from the JFF further says KASAFA has decided to withdraw its letter last week, which claimed that the agreement with their sponsor covered referees fees and uniforms.
The JFF also says KASAFA was directed to use referees’ gears prescribed by the local governing body.
