Billionaire Bill Gates has urged industrialised nations to honor aid pledges to developing nations despite the recession.

The CNN has quoted a report from Gates’ advocacy group, ONE, as saying Italy, has performed especially poorly in its share of aid spending.

The report also says France has also fallen behind on its commitment.

Gates said nations like France had not fulfilled their promises due to pressures on their budgets.

He suggests that they adjust their priorities so that the promises are met.

Mr Gates also says trade is key to developing nations being able to become self-sufficient, instead of relying on foreign aid or philanthropy.
