US governor admits affair, resigns

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford says he will resign as chairman of the Republican Governors\' Association, after admitting to having an extra-marital affair.
Mr. Sanford had been seen as a potential candidate for the 2012 US presidential election.
However, he said today that he has been unfaithful to his wife with an Argentinean woman.
US media reported that since last Thursday neither Sanford\'s wife nor his staff was sure of his whereabouts.
