Bolt to compete in Switzerland tomorrow
Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt of Jamaica will make his first European appearance in the 200 metres at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland tomorrow.
Bolt, who set world records in winning the 100 metres and the 200 metres at last summer’s Beijing Olympic, will line up against American Shawn Crawford, the 2004 Olympic champion and runner-up last year.
The field also includes American 400-metre Olympic champion Lashawn Merrit and Churandy Martina from the Dutch Antilles.
Bolt says the race will be an early test of his form. He says by season\'s end he wants to challenge the world records he set in the 100 and 200 sprints last year in Beijing.
Also on the speedy Pontaise track will be Bolt\'s Jamaica teammate Asafa Powell in the 100. The former record-holder is seen as one of Bolt\'s main challengers in the sprints this season alongside American Tyson Gay.
On the women\'s side, Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser of Jamaica heads a strong field in the 100 and her compatriot Melaine Walker, the Olympic 400 metre hurdle champion will compete in the 400 metres.
Meanwhile, Bolt will run the 4 x 100 relay at the London Grand Prix later this month.
Bolt had already announced his participation in the 100 race at the event, as he prepares for the world athletics championships in Berlin next month.
The London Grand Prix is held July 24-25.
Bolt says that racing at Crystal Palace in two different events over the two days will be the ideal tune up for him ahead of Berlin.
Bolt established himself as the world\'s fastest man with astonishing performances in Beijing, setting world records in the 100, 200 and relay event.
