A baby born prematurely to the first woman in Spain die from the Influenza A (H1N1) virus has also died after a medical error.

Officials from the Gregorio Maranon hospital in Madrid said the baby boy was born by Caesarean section last month just hours before his mother, Dalila Mimouni, died.

Doctors had said the baby, Rayan, did not have the virus and he seemed to be doing well despite being premature.

But he has now died after an elementary feeding error by a member of staff.

The hospital\'s managing director Antonio Barba has reported that the child died last night after he was fed intravenously instead of through a gastric tube.

The mistake was detected about an hour later but Rayan died just after noon today at the hospital in Madrid.
