New Zealand, replying to hosts Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 452, were 87-2 at stumps on today’s second day of the opening Test at Galle.



New Zealand opener Tim McIntosh was unbeaten on 36 in a patient 88-ball innings batting with night watchman Jeetan Patel on six.



Earlier, Thilan Samaraweera, who resumed this morning on 82 top-scored with 159 to take Sri Lanka to their massive total.



Sri Lanka had resumed on 293-3.
